Performance Orientation tends to vary in Peruvian business culture based on which social-economic sector you are looking at.
For the purpose of our studies, we are focusing on the middle to higher social-economic sector, which includes groups such as entrepreneurs, business professionals, etc. We found that in this sector, Performance Orientation was low. This is based on the fact that Peruvians are traditionally focused on relationships and keeping the relationship harmonious.
When it comes to feedback, Peruvians do not traditionally value this because they see it as offensive and judgemental towards the relationship. Peruvians value a person's reputation and who they are more than the person's actual performance.
This traditional low performance culture, however, is beginning to change -- as are many other aspects of the culture -- with the influence of Western Culture. As time goes on, we see Peru moving more towards a High Performance Orientation culture, but they are not quite there yet.
