ESSAYS

 

These essays started a real exploration into myself and are a roadmap into the message of this portfolio. I want to show readers how I came to understand and value the importance of slowing down for the present and the need to spend time in those experiences that really make our every day valuable.

 

Previously, my writing had been a way for me to check the boxes and grab the grade. I waltzed through the years and wrote what was required, never really looking back at who I was becoming or where I was going. In a rare moment sophomore year, I paused to look at myself and started to realize that time was flying by faster than I could count and that I was molding and changing, in ways I wasn't always sure I liked. 

 

It Is, Remember Me, and It Is Imperative are essays that reflect on the person I am becoming and the type of life I am building. But instead of just categorizing and distancing myself, I begin to really dig deep to critically understand if I am making the most of each moment and taking the time to thrive in the present.

 

The developmental essay traces the journey of my writing career, showing not just how my writing has changed, but also showing how my goal and purpose in writing has changed. It explores the transformations within myself and where I would like to channel myself next.
