The Short Story
George Saunders
Born in 1958 in Amarillo, Texas, George Saunders started off his career as a field geophysicist after studying geophysics in Colorado School of Mines.
Coincidentally, what he calls his "reading life," started during this time period as a way to kill time during periodic two week breaks working at a jungle camp in Sumatra.
Leaving the industry, he became involved in various odd jobs before entering the MFA at Syracuse University, launchign his writing career. His most prominent works include, Tenth of December, Pastoralia, and CivilWarLand in Bad Decline.
He also writes regularly for the New Yorker and GQ magazines.
